So, I'm drifting a little away from my goals for the Once Upon A Time Challenge. Not so much in content as to my goal to read new authors. But what is a girl to do when her favorite authors release new books? I am not known for my patience. ;-)
Mercedes Lackey is hands down one of my favorite authors. She is someone I can't wait to introduce my (not yet in existence) kids to. Her writing always has a moral to it. It's not "shove it down your throat-holier than thou" obvious, but it is there, easy to see. Whether it is a message of saving the environment or animals or simply how to be a better person by showing the cause and effects of your actions, the message is there and given through character that are easy to relate to. Fortune's Fool is no different.
Fortune's Fool is part of Lackey's Five Hundred Kingdoms series. Pure fairy tales in the once upon a time but with more of a behind the scenes feel to it. The Characters in the series know that they are in a fairy tale world and what is expected of them, which gives them the chance to work with or against the 'tale. Fortune's Fool is an adaption of the Little Mermaid, sort of. If you can picture the Little mermaid with strong Russian fairy tale influence's. The Five Hundred Kingdoms series, Fortune's Fool included, fun fluffy romantic reads. So enjoyable to read on a lazy day.

I do not know this author but your post reminds me that I should finally finish the book I started to read some months ago.
Carrie, I am just passing by to thank you for your nice comment on my pottery balls. I am glad you liked them. I am currently working on more balls and as soon as they have found a new home in our garden, I'll try to post some sort of tutorial. I got so many queries of blogging friends who asked me how I did them... ;-))
Happy week-end and warmest wishes from Germany!

Hi Carrie! I followed the link from the Once Upon a Time Challenge over to your blog! Fantasy is a new genre for me. I recently read American Gods by Neil Gaiman and loved it. But I haven't read any Mercedes Lackey. She has so many books, I wouldn't know where to start. Thanks for a great review!
Hi Carrie. Finally getting around to the interview meme questions. I did warn you that I'm lazy :)
1. Why did you start blogging?
2. What's the best book you ever read?
3. What's the worst book you ever read?
4. Dragons or spaceships?
5. What is your earliest childhood memory?
I really want to read this book. I have read the previous two and I am just waiting for it to come out in paperback. Are you aware she has another fairy tale-type series? The first book of that one is "The Fire Rose". :)
I am loving being immersed in fairytales and fantasy reading with the OUaT Challenge. Lackey sounds like an author I need to look out for. Do you have a recommendation for where to start?
I've heard some good things about Mercedes Lackey. Can you believe my library doesn't have any of her books. Not one. Guess I'll add her to my booksmooch wishlist.
I too have strayed from my list for OUT. Yeah, I'll get to it,eventually :)***CV
Hello Carrie
I have never heard of this book but I love the fact that you say it is a good read for a lazy day. It makes me want to buy it just to save it for that moment.

I'm all about book substitutions during challenges, especially my own, so feel free to substitute this for one if you need to. I've seen this one at the bookstore and love the cover. Haven't read any ML myself, she's another in a long line of authors that I need to get to someday.
I've never read anything by Mercedes Lackey, and yet I have several of her books in my wishlist. This one sounds very good, I think I'm going to add it as well.
