Yippy!

Yay! I don't have pictures for you, but this weekend I took one step closer to my goal of having my own sewing business. It was only a little step, but I'm practicing my Grrl Genius-ness and recognizing my step. Now that I have you all confused, I'll tell you what I did.

I altered drapes. I know. Whoo-hoo and all. Like I said, it's a small step, but I got paid to do it and it only took me a couple of hours to do the calculations and do the deed. I hemmed them and added butterfly pleats. So I say a big thank you to my buddy Erik (who just left JC Penny's to start his own freelance installer business. Go Erik). One of the designers that he installs for needed a rush alteration. So he passed the alterations to me to do. I'm hoping he'll be able to pass more little jobs my way. Keep your fingers crossed!

My dream is to be a stay at home mom, and to earn my own money by doing alterations and custom sewing. I someday want to open an Etsy shop and sell handbags, softies and whatever else floats my fancy. It's not a big dream, lots of other people do it, but it's what I want.

Now that I am not taking Dutch lesson anymore, I will have more time to create stuff.

You go girl! I envy anyone who can sew cause my expertise goes no further than replacing buttons. Hell, I have been known to staple a hem back in till I can get to the alteration shop.

I'm with T-shirt, although I used to know how to make clothes and stuff, I haven't sewn since my Mom died. I'm so jealous of anyone who can!

Also, good for you for wanting your own business. It's scary and frustrating, but so much more rewarding than working for someone else could ever be!

That's awesome carrie! side jobs are a good way to ease into business because if you get enough of them you will be able to track cost vs time and all that before setting up shop and having to set prices out of the blue.

Carrie - thanks for stopping by - yes the j & j flea market is still there and still claims to be one of the biggest in the south. Get off I-85 at the 441 (tanger mall)exit and head south towards athens. There is also the pendergrass flea market in jefferson. off I-85 as well at hwy 129 jefferson/gainesville - go toward gainesville the flea market is immediately there on your right. you can see the interstate.

curious to know - how did you find maggiegrace?
