It's the final countdown.....da-na-na-na(I'm hearing Europe running thru my head-the 80's rock band, not the continent) I actually read Coraline last week, but didn't get around to posting about it. I loved it. There was a quote from a reviewer in the book that sums it up perfectly for me. I'm going to paraphrase, because I returned the book on Sunday, but the reviewer said : It is the perfect children's book, not because it is scary, but because it shows kids that fear can be conquered. I love it. Simply because I know I did learn that from my childhood books. Most of the books I read as a child and teen (almost all were fantasy and sci-fi) carried messages of ethics and moral. They taught of how things should be and what to do if they are not. They did it in such a way, that I never noticed it was happening.
Coraline is a great child's horror book. Not to scary, and Coraline solved her problems by being clever and facing her fear, accepting it and then doing what needs to be done. What a great lesson for a child.
I'm excited because it is going to be made into a movie in 2008. Henry Selick is directing and it is going to be a stop motion animation movie. Yay!

So glad you enjoyed it, it is such a fantastic little tale. I am so glad they are making this into a movie as I think it is a story that suits itself to the theatre.
